You are enrolled as a students of natural sciences or engineering at the Ruhr-University Bochum or the Politechnic School Bochum and interested in a traineeship abroad? You already passed your pre-diploma or at least three semesters in your BA programme?
Then you are exactly right at the Outgoing department of IAESTE Localcommittee Bochum!
Every year our team arranges traineeships for about 25-30 students all over the world at universities and in companies. The main time for the placements is from June to September but generally places are available during the whole year. The training period mostly covers the range from two to four months but also long-terms, up to a maximum of 52 weeks, are possible. Everything corresponding to your demands.
In the beginning of the wintersemester the Outgoing Team offers an informational event where you can get further information about how to get a traineeship and how the programme works. That normally also is the start of the application period for local students who like to go abroad during the following year.
Until the middle of January you can apply online in our web pages for an internship abroad. In addition to an online application, you have to send us your CV in English, motivation letter in English (in where you should write, why you want to do an IAESTE traineeship, in which country, why, when etc.), matriculation certificate and transcript of records. These should be send to our e-mail address. When we have got all the documents described above from you, you will get a confirmation e-mail from us. This can take a couple of days so please patience!
Especially in the online application you can clearly say, how have you specialized in your studies and what kinds of skills and academic knowledge do you have. You can also tell in which country, when and how long traineeship do you want to do. You can also tell if you would like to be offered an accommodation.
In some of the IAESTE traineeship places the official working language is English, i.e. no matter in which country you go, your employer and the members of the local IAESTE committee speak English to you.
After your application has been handled, you will get from us an acceptance or rejection message.
At the beginning of February is held the International Exchange Conference where the IAESTE national committee of Germany, headquartered in Bonn, changes traineeship places with national committees of other countries. The German national committee gets about 1500 traineeship places from all over the world. These places are for Germans wanting to do a traineeship abroad.
We from the Outgoing team invite you who have got an acceptance letter from us, to pick 3 traineeship places from the list. We try to get one of these places for you from the national exchange conference on Mid-February. Unfortunately we can’t guaranty that we’ll succeed.
After the conference you will get a notice from us, if we have been able to get you a traineeship place from you wish list. If this is the case, you will get a binding acceptance letter and you will become the only applicant for that place. Due to the binding offer, you will have to pay a warranty of 100 € that you will get back after the performed traineeship and when you have returned a trainee feedback (a short description, 1 A4 paper and a form) to us. In addition, we’ll charge a processing cost of 30 € of the postage and other costs related to handling your application.
Now begins the actual application phase of traineeship places from the employers. At the beginning of March everybody who has got a traineeship offer will get together to a special Outgoing event where you Outgoers can meet each other, get job application help, get to know something about the countries you’re going and much more. The event serves as a preparation for your traineeship. The Outgoer event was held this year on 1. of March and it got a lot of positive feedback.
You have to return your comprehensive application to our IAESTE office by 15. of March. What belongs to a comprehensive application and how the application should look like you will find under the heading Downloads. You will also find e.g. CV examples there. We will send your application to the receiving country to your employer. It is important, that before you haven’t got any answer from your employer, you shouldn’t be in any contact to them. Everything goes through IAESTE. Sending an application directly to the employer would cause a rejection.
The confirmation of acceptance from our employer and a letter from the IAESTE committee of the receiving country will be send directly to you. Now you can be in contact with your employer and let the local IAESTE committee to know, when you are arriving, if you have to be picked up from an airport, when you need accommodation etc. If you live outside the European Union countries, you should also immediately make an appointment to the nearest Embassy of the receiving country in order to get a visa. These trainees can also apply for a travel cost aid from DAAD. The document form for the aid you can find from the Downloads.
If you don’t want to do a traineeship during the summer: during the whole year we get through Intraweb short-notice offers of traineeships. If you are interested in short-notice traineeships, send an e-mail to our IAESTE office and we look if we could find something appropriate for you from the Intraweb.
